At 2.6 terabytes, the ginormous leak of highly classified documents now known as the Panama Papers, converges into offering a depth of complications and gives us a glimpse at the worldwide net of corporate finance, corruption, and tax evasion.
The core of the story isn’t all that complicated though, as it just involves boxes of individuals and organisations stashing their possessions in secret offshore locations like Panama.
It is highly probable that these individuals/organisations hid their money in a manner that is technically legal, at most, in order to avoid taxes. This is something that’s been going on for a long time due to an errant policy, allowing giant businesses to evade taxes in a shadily “legal” manner.
These huge revelations may convince lawmakers to finally act whilst on the fire, and do something about the corporate system.
